1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Daniel Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). It's a town that lives in fear.
But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.
Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents-townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors-all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.
When writer, director, producer Frank Darabont needs poster art, he knows where to go. Renowned artist Drew Struzan has created amazing poster art for everything from Star Wars, E.T., Back to The Future to Harry Potter. Now, back in league with Frank Darabont, with whom Struzan recently created artwork for The Mist, the artist is back with fresh new art for the new AMC series, The Walking Dead, debuting right here at Comic-Con.

Thor and Captain America Movies Go 3-D!!
07/20/2010
Roborama
Marvel Studios’ next two blockbusters – Kenneth Branagh’s Thor and Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger: Captain America – have both been officially upgraded from standard to 3-D films, according to multiple sources including MTV.com and The Los Angeles Times.
According to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, fans can expect nothing less than the best from the 3-D conversion process being applied to these movies, part of Marvel’s expansion of The Avengers family of films that includes the Iron Man and Hulk franchises.
"In being able to think in 3-D from the start – and having every bit of our special effects rendered in true 3-D – we have the opportunity to do it right," Feige said. "When you're working with a director like Ken Branagh or Joe Johnston, they're not going to settle for less than perfect image. They're not going to settle for something that isn't up to the artistry of everything else they've done on the film ... they're not going to put on some overlay in the last 10 to 12 weeks of post-production for a fiscal reason."

All Out War this Fall From DC
07/18/2010
Unknown Rob
This fall, DC Comics revisits some of its most historically important titles in five one-shots chronicling the horrors of War and the honor of the men and women caught in the crossfire.
For decades, war comics played an important role in DC’s success, offering some of the most provocative, emotionally charged tales of combat ever printed. Starring grizzled servicemen like Sgt. Rock, Captain Storm, Johnny Cloud, and Jeb Stuart – and French Resistance fighter Mademoiselle Marie – these popular comics presented both realistic and fantastic war stories.
The Walking Dead tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. The comic goes on to explore the challenges of life in a world overrun by zombies who take a toll on the survivors, and sometimes the interpersonal conflicts present a greater danger to their continuing survival than the zombies that roam the country. Over time, the characters are changed by the constant exposure to death and some grow willing to do anything to survive.

New Green Lantern Duds!
07/16/2010
Rob Lantern
Ryan Reynolds stars as Hal Jordan, a cocky test pilot who becomes a ring-wearing intergalactic superhero in this massive sci-fi epic from director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale). Though Reynolds has prior experience in the superhero realm from his role as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, playing Green Lantern involved some major challenges, like getting hurled through the air on a wire at up to 60 feet per second to create the illusion of flight. "The first time you do it, you're seriously considering an adult diaper," Reynolds says. Still, he couldn't resist the chance to play the beloved DC COMICS hero, whose power ring can conjure virtually anything he can dream up. "Will and imagination are his superpowers," Reynolds says. "We need a circus of Timothy Learys to think of things Hal would invent with his ring." Stay Tuned for more features as the San Diego Comic COn comes full circle next week!

Harvey Pekar Passes Away
07/12/2010
Rob
ccording to the Associated Press, writer/artist/social commentator Harvey Pekar has passed away at his Cleveland Heights, Ohio home. He was 70 years old.
It came “from off the streets of Cleveland!” Pekar’s legendary, autobiographical comic series American Splendor poignantly illustrated Harvey’s philosophy that “ordinary life can be pretty complex stuff!”
What began as a small, independent title in 1976 slowly grew into a literary masterpiece, spawning a critically acclaimed, Oscar-nominated film and inspiring generations of comic book creators.
he commercial and critical success of HBO/Good Machine’s American Splendor movie – which won the coveted Grand Jury Prize for Best Drama at the Sundance Film Festival in 2003 – put Pekar firmly in the spotlight and ramped up demand for his honest, often painful reflections on day-to-day life.
The film utilized a unique blend of fictional film (featuring Paul Giamatti as Pekar and Hope Davis as Pekar's wife, Joyce Brabner), documentary footage of the real Pekar, and animation based on his comics.
During the promotional phase of the movie, on July 29, 2003, the Village Voice’s Ed Parks wrote this about Pekar:
Born in Cleveland in 1939, he is, or has been: a file clerk at the VA hospital there, a job he held for 37 years until retirement; a juvenile delinquent, college dropout, and failed army recruit; a jazz aficionado, critic, and record hustler; a Rust Belt anthropologist and antisocial shut-in; a "driven, compulsive mad Jew" (as friend and frequent collaborator R. Crumb calls him); an expansive talker, with a voice both sandpapered and musical; the son of immigrants from Bialystock; a cantankerous guest on Letterman; a book reviewer of zero pretense and maximum stamina who has braved seas of prose unleashed by the most daunting authors this side of Thomas Bernhard; a cancer survivor; a husband three times over; a guardian of a teenage girl; a loser; a mensch

On selecting Garfield, director Marc Webb said, "Though his name may be new to many, those who know this young actor's work understand his extraordinary talents. He has a rare combination of intelligence, wit, and humanity. Mark my words, you will love Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker."
Commenting on the announcement, Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Matt Tolmach, President of Columbia Pictures said, "Spider-Man is a classic superhero — a young man who balances his responsibility to serve humanity and crush evil with the shyness and normalcy of someone struggling to find himself. The role demands an extraordinary actor. You need someone who can magically transform himself from Peter Parker into Spider-Man. An actor who will depict the vulnerability of youth and the strength and confidence of a legendary figure at the same moment. We have found that actor in Andrew Garfield. From the first time we saw him in the upcoming film The Social Network, to his glorious screen test, which floored all of us, we knew that we had found our new Peter Parker."
Producer Avi Arad added, "I'm incredibly excited about Andrew Garfield. In the Spider-Man tradition, we were looking for a smart, sensitive, and cool new Peter Parker who can inspire us and make us laugh, cry, and cheer. We believe we have found the perfect choice to take on this role and lead us into the future."
Producer Laura Ziskin said, "We are thrilled to have Andrew Garfield for this new incarnation of Spider-Man under Marc Webb's direction. We were fortunate enough to meet with a group of fantastically talented young men. In the end, we all agreed that in addition to being an extraordinary actor, Andrew had the right mix of humor, youth, and pathos, along with an underlying sense of strength and power necessary to bring Peter Parker and Spider-Man to life on screen."
The selection of Garfield was revealed at a press event in Cancun, Mexico for international journalists attending a media tour promoting upcoming films from Sony Pictures Entertainment. B-roll footage of the announcement will be available via satellite later this evening — see uplink times coordinate information below.
Garfield is fast becoming one of the most respected and sought-after young actors working in the industry today. In a short career, spanning only five years, he has already been directed by, and starred alongside, some of the greatest names and received a BAFTA for a role that won him international praise.
Garfield most recently worked with director David Fincher on the upcoming film The Social Network. He previously starred for Spike Jonze on his robot love story I'm Here, which premiered at Sundance this year. He plays the lead male opposite Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan in Mark Romanek's Never Let Me Go, due for release later this year.
Other notable screen credits include Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus playing opposite Christopher Plummer, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, Jude Law and the late Heath Ledger, Robert Redford's Lions For Lambs, where he starred alongside Redford, Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep; Revolution Films' Red Riding Trilogy – 1974 directed by Julian Jarrold, where he lead a stellar cast including Rebecca Hall and David Morrissey, and his unforgettable portrayal of a young ex-con in John Crowley's Boy A, for which he earned the best actor BAFTA in 2008.
Garfield's career began in theatre and in 2006 his performances in "Beautiful Thing" (Sound Space/Kit Productions), "The Overwhelming," and "Burn / Chatroom / Citizenship" (Royal National Theatre) won him the Milton Shulman Award for Outstanding Newcomer at the Evening Standard awards and the Jack Tinker Award for Most Promising Newcomer at the Critics Circle Theatre Awards. Other notable theatre credits include "Romeo and Juliet" (Manchester Royal Exchange) and "Kes" (Manchester Royal Exchange), for which he received the Most Promising Newcomer Award at the Manchester Evening News Awards 2004.

Bruce W. Timm: Brandon is one of our up-and-coming director/producer types who has been with (Warner Bros. Animation) for a while. I've known him for years - he actually worked for me back on the Superman/Batman series - and I've watched him work his way up from being a top storyboard guy to a director. His work on the first third of Superman Doomsday was very powerful. When we were looking around for a director for this film, Brandon was very anxious to do something completely on his own, and I knew he was ready. The Thing about Brandon is that, besides just being talented, he's super, super thorough. He's very detail oriented. So it was a relief to me to have someone like Brandon in charge, because I could pretty much leave it up to him to run the show and I knew he wasn't going to make any missteps. The end result is a very good film across the board in terms of action, emotion and design.
It looks like a bunch of TheOneRing.net's tipsters have put many bits and pieces together, and this has led to the conclusion that the sought after director could be the man to land this job.
Apparently, if this were to happen it could be a situation where Lord of the Rings Director Peter Jackson would mentor Blomkamp through this project. Jackson did produce District 9 and things worked out really well for that colloboration, right? TheOneRing.net cites everything from possible casting situations to how much Jackson and Blomkamp seem to like each other (when seen in person), as to why Blomkamp could get this gig. The final thought is that with the Comic-Con International in San Diego approaching perhaps something will be announced there.
As stated above, this story is just a rumor that is based on a great deal of speculation. We will continue to report on this story as it unfolds.
Originated in 1963 by Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, Dr. Strange was a self-centered New York surgeon who lost his touch after a car accident. He became a wandering derelict and then found his way to a healer in the Himalayas. This is where he learned to tap into psychic powers to fight evil wizards and other evildoers.
Dr. Strange had been at such companies as Savoy Pictures, Columbia Pictures, Dimension Films and Paramount. Some of the names involved with this project over the years included Wes Craven, David S. Goyer and Guillermo del Toro.

Oscar nominated actor Josh Brolin is best known for his dramatic roles in such films as No Country for Old Men, American Gangster, W. and Milk, for which he earned his nomination. However, on June 18th the actor will make his first attempt at playing a comic book character as he rides to the big screen in Jonah Hex, based on DC Comics' classic Western anti-hero. The monie still doesn't open for another week but as with any comic book character that is turned into a big summer action film the question remains: will there be a sequel? We recently had an opportunity to sit down with Josh Brolin to talk about the new film and we asked the actor if returning for a sequel was something he'd be interested in doing if the movie is successful? "Always and I said that during the shooting," replied Brolin.
"This was a very, very tough shoot as you well know," the actor went on to say about making the film which co-stars Megan Fox and John Malkovich. "Once you're out there, its hot, you've got the prosthetic on and you think, oh my god I'll never do this again," Brolin said referring to the make-up he had to wear for Jonah's trademark scar. "But then afterwards you look back on it and you go, wow I really appreciate the way this turned out and we could take this movie in any direction that we wanted to," he said optimistically. "So yeah, all of this is going to be determined by whether it does well and this and that. But whatever man, I love the movie," declared Brolin. "I'm happy with it, you know? Anything can be a franchise at some point, but the movie itself and by itself I'm proud of it for sure," he concluded. "Absolutely!"
