Frequently Asked Questions
With the COVID-19 pandemic, am I required to wear a mask into the store?
If you are not vaccinated, we ask that you respect others who may have compromised health and wear a mask in our stores. If you are vaccinated we do not ask this. Note: With the advent of the Delta variant, we may return to required masking in the future.
Do you buy comics or trading cards?

I'm a creator. Can I sell my book through you?
We are proud to carry the works of local artists and comic teams! If you are interested in having Mayhem carry your comic book series, please contact our Ames store and ask for Rob Josephson.
Do you have a subscription or pull box service?
We have pull boxes available at both our stores!
Can you do special orders or pre-orders?
Definitely! We can special order or pre-order most games, comics, and toys. Fill out a hold tag the next time you're in the store and we'll do our best to get it for you!
Work For Us
While we are not always hiring, we do hang on to resumes. Feel free to drop your paper resume off with us at the store (do not email it---digital resumes are not kept track of). You can also keep an eye on our Facebook page,
where we always post if we have a new opening!
Sell to Us
We buy vintage comic books as well as Magic: the Gathering and Pokemon* cards! We do not purchase baseball cards, Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, toys, board games, or other collectibles.
To sell us your individual item or collection, you must bring it into the store. We CANNOT make ANY offers sight unseen. If you have a particularly large comic collection, please call us ahead
of time to make arrangements. For all items except Pokemon cards we offer cash as well as store credit.

To sell us comic books, please pick your preferred store and refer to the information that follows.
Ames Location
Please bring in your comics between the below hours and ask for Rob Josephson. If you have a large collection, please call ahead at 515-292-3510.
- Mondays 10AM-4PM
- Wednesdays-Fridays 10AM-4PM
Des Moines Location
Please bring in your comics and drop them off. We will have you fill out a contract and evaluate the collection for you.
